Stephanie Bowen is a Registered Psychotherapist with a focus for supporting individuals and families living with substance use/concurrent disorders.

Stephanie’s passion for understanding how we as humans are impacted by addiction and mental health grew while she was completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences at the Ontario Tech University (formerly UOIT). This led her to further her understanding of the treatment and recovery process by completing her Addiction and Mental Health diploma from Durham College, which provided her with the necessary skills to engage in psychotherapy.

Stephanie has experience working in various forms of treatment settings, from community to residential and hospital based programs, including providing acute care in emergency departments. She has extensive experience providing both individual and group based therapy. Stephanie has facilitated programs such as Seeking Safety (for stage one trauma recovery), SMART Recovery, DBT and CBT skills groups, relapse prevention and harm reduction groups, as well as programming for families/support persons impacted by a loved one’s substance use. In addition to her work at Lotus Counselling, Stephanie currently works with St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton as an Addiction Specialist within the Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) Clinic, providing education and brief counselling to individuals living with substance use concerns.

Stephanie’s counselling approach is a combination of evidence-based practices and methods tailored to the specific individual needs such as motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, and harm-reduction strategies. She believes therapy is about entering into a partnership, with the goal of identifying strategies and behavioural changes that move the individual towards a more rich and meaningful life.
